Battle of Uhud
The battle of Uhud was fought between the Quresh and the Muslims on Hijrah three ( 625 A.D.). Uhud is a mountain three miles away from Madina.
The army of Quresh consisted of 3,000 persons and it was commanded by Abu Sufyan. The troops were accompanied by several women including Hinda , wife of Abu Sufyan, who had lost her father, a brother an uncle in the battle of Badr. These women beat the tambourine and sang such song that prompted the men to fight. The Muslims army consisted 1000 persons when they left Madina. As the Muslims were advancing towards the battlefield, Abdullah bin Ubayy along with 300 hypocrites left the Muslims and went back to Madina.After the withdrawal of Abdullah bin Ubayy, chief of the hypocrites, dropped to 700.
In this battle 70 Muslims were martyred and 40 wounded. The Idolaters lost 30 of their men. Hamza, a dear uncle of Muhammad ( SAW ), was martyred by a slave Wehshi. He is known as Sayyed-ud-Shuhada.
In this battle two two of the teeth of Muhammad (SAW) were martyred. This wasbthe only person killed by Muhammad (SAW) throughout his life.
